Not organized in any particular order, just a collection of things
that may be useful to new players.
-=The Overseer=-
The overseer (little yellow thing that follows you around) uses specific
symbols with different meanings:
Predator Symbol: Used to point out dangers in the environment.
Especially useful for detecting pole mimics or invisible lizards!
Batfly Symbol: Points you in the direction of a room with batfly nests.
Self-explanatory.
Shelter Symbol: Points you to the closest shelter. The overseer will
point you towards a shelter after you’ve eaten enough food. If you
haven’t eaten enough for hibernation and the overseer is using this
symbol, it means rain is coming.
Food Symbol: Shows you edible things. Self-explanatory.
Slugcat Symbol: Points you in the general direction of where you
should be going.
Holograms: Only show up at specific points in the game to communicate
a more complex idea that can’t be explained with symbols alone.
You don’t have to worry about this.
Side note: scavengers don’t like overseers and will attack them.
don’t stand inbetween an armed scav and an overseer.
-=Swimming=-
An especially important section considering how many players get stuck
in drainage system (happened to me too lmao). You may notice that while
underwater, your slugcat has a bit of light around it. This is your
oxygen level. Do not spam the jump button while underwater- it provides
a small speed boost but will deplete your oxygen.
This plant will increase your oxygen level for a bit. Useful in drainage
system but only hold one at a time because their effects don’t stack.
There are also leeches in almost every body of water. Standing in a dry
place for a bit will cause them to fall off. Having too many leeches on
you will weigh you down – they can be stunned with popping snails.
-=Misc Stuff That I Dont Care About Organizing=-
* Centipedes are edible in all difficulties.
* Walking and jumping creates noise that may attract enemies.
Laying down and crawling is silent.
* Configure your controls if you find them uncomfortable, you don’t
have to do a bunch of complicated movement to get through the game.
* Throwing rocks/spears while crouch-jumping will increase the length
of your jump.
* Spears can be thrown in walls/floors to create temporary poles.
* A dark gradient at the bottom of the screen means that falling into
it will kill you (mostly in high places).
* Slugcat can hold one inedible item in their stomach. This item will
stay with you if you use a passage.
* From your perspective: Slugcat will throw items from their left hand
first.
* Throwing a rock at a lizard’s head will stun it and flip it over,
leaving it vulnerable to a spear attack.
* Don’t try to time a pole grab while falling, simply holding up will
automatically make the slugcat hold onto a pole.
Garbage Wastes Advice:
----------------------
* You could find bats, fruits, small centipedes, popcorn plants and bubble
fruits to eat in the Garbage Wastes.
* Popcorn fruits, in case you don´t know, can be opened by throwing spears at
them, and fill your hunger bar, although, when you eat from one(jump and shift
button when you touch one) it will be available again a few cycles later.
* Bubble fruits are plants that will pop when you take it onto water, you can
eat them after they pop. They are around some areas and you notice that you
can´t eat them if they´re not popped.
* Small centipedes, just grab and eat them quickly, they are around only one
area of the region though.
* Blue fruits can be find all around the area. If your hunger bar is allready
filled, remember to take one or two with you to the next shelter you go so
that in the enxt cycle you already have food available.
* Bats you can lure with the batplant, which is a plant that attracts them,
you notice that when you eat the plant it does nothing to your hunger bar,
it´s only use is to attract batflies and trade with scavengers. I usually don´t
go out of my way to find bats, I´m terrible at catching them.
* In regards to the scavengers (dudes with spears), they can be friendly with
you if you give them food and other things (From i remember you use down+shift
to drop an item). To pass a scavenger toll you need to give them a pearl, which
I don´t believe respawn. The Garbage Wastes is filled with pearls though, you
can find them lying around everywhere and can use them to pass scavenger tolls
(other items are considered less valuable and most will not allow you to pass
through the tolls). Remember, the scavengers have a reputation system, if you
give them items they will most likely give one back and become more frinedly
towards you, helping them kill enemies also help improve reputation, but if
you attack them, your reputation(with all scavengers in the game) will take a
hit, and they can become hostile.
* If I were you, I would fist rest in an area of the region that has a lot of
food nearby, like small centipedes or blue fruits, and once I reach the required
karma level(the symbol necessary to pass to another area)I would grab a pearl
(you can store it in your stomach, hold shift to eat, and hold shift to spit
it out), and them only after I pass the toll and pass the gate to another area
would I save.
* Finally, remember that you can use space to access your mental map, and if
you want it, there´s a movement tutorial on the internet about all the moves
you can learn to do with slugcat. Knowing two or three of those can really help
you a little bit.
* To kill lizards easily, remember to throw a rock first to stun them, and a
spear afterwards, in their back or belly (may need to do multiple times to kill,
just grab the spear you threw and keep throwing).
* There´s a lot to discover in this game and I thing it´s best for you to discover
most of it by yourself, hope I helped a little bit. Bye.
Guide To Green Lizards:
-----------------------
Written by Dari~
This Guide contains information on Green Lizards, the most common Lizard, how
to avoid or fight them, and fun facts. Edit: I have beaten the game on Hunter
Mode now, (Quite a while ago too, I thought it was a little easy though) so I
have a little more information
-=Information=-
Green Lizards are the most common Lizard, and can be dangerous to newer players if
they don't know what they're doing. Green Lizards have the second largest health
pool of all Lizards, but they are not very hard to avoid, all you need to do is
jump over their head or run and you've escaped. But if you want to fight them,
either use a rock or a Firecracker Plant to stun them or make them run away. If
stunned, jump over their head and spear them 6 times, this may be difficult. If
retreating, throw the spear at their weak body to deal damage. Repeat 6 times and
you have killed it. P.S. When you hit a Green Lizard it goes into a rage state
for a bit, making it more aggressive and it moves much faster.
-=Fun Facts=-
If against a wall, throw a spear to stick them to the wall, they will not be able
to escape and can be killed easily. Green Lizards hesitate a moment before attacking,
use this to your advantage and you'll kill them easily. Green Lizards are immune
to Red Lizard bites, which results in them usually killing Red Lizards.
Green Lizards make good pets,
-=Taming=-
Green Lizards require 1-2 food to be tamed. I'm pretty sure you can feed them every
food that can tame them, like Cicadas. Green Lizards are the easiest to tame and
the best to tame. They pacify every Green Lizard around the area and make them good.
They are also good in combat and (from what I've gathered) do not run from vultures.
-=Conclusion=-
Green Lizards aren't the best Lizard in combat, but they are incredibly good as pets
and are pretty bulky. The Answer: Green Lizards are great pets and are extremely
useful early to mid-game (If you can end up taming one)
-=Overall tierlist (For Pets)=-
* Overall ranking for Green Lizard: #1
* It's a hard choice between Green Lizards and Red Lizards, as both are great pets
and are very useful
* But due to the Green Lizards being better in early game (where most people get
stuck) and Red Lizards being extremely difficult to tame and almost being hunter
exclusive, Green Lizards are the best Lizard pet in the game.
How to Get The Mother Passage Achievement:
------------------------------------------
This is how you get it:
Playing as Gourmand you’ll stumble upon a pup in a shelter (I met mine in Industrial
Complex), spend a few next cycles feeding it and hibernating together and you’ll get
the passage.

Hunter Tips:
------------
This tips are mostly for beginners.
* Dont worry much about karma, once you reach the wall you can get 3 karma upgrades
next to each other with minimum requierements.
* Getting the sky islands or farm array echo early guarantees you being able to get
karma 10 when you end your business at the wall.
* Make sure you know which dens are necessary and which ones arent to avoid wasting
extra cycles.
* Once you reach subterranean with karma 10 you already won, even with just 1 cycle
you can reach the depths with unlimited tries anyways.
* Getting a karma upgrade early also lets you more easily make mistakes without being
locked out of the wall.
* Echoes can be strategically left unclaimed for later since they put all creatures
asleep arround, making the area safer
Gourmand Explained:
-------------------
Written by Sir McSquizzy
-=Mechanics=-
The Gourmand has five main mechanics: Exhaustion, Crafting, crushing things ,Meals,
and bringing things out of the infinite void of his stomach.
Exhaustion: The Gourmand will have decreased climbing and walking speed, decreased
jumping height, and decreased spear damage after he either throws a spear or runs and
jumps too much.
Crafting: Hold any two item in both hands, hold grab and up, and it will transform
into something new. (most, but not all items will make something with each other).
Fat Scug: Jumping on any creature from far enough up, you will do damage.
Meals: Hold two different food items in both hands and hold up while eating, this
will give you one extra food pip.
Void Stomach: Hold grab and a random small living creature, or a random item, in
exchange for a food pip.
-=Raw Stats=-
The Gourmand needs to have 7 food pips to hibernate along with 4 extra to store.
He climbs slower, is louder (this means creatures are more likely to hear you, also
while crawling), and weighs a lot.
He deals three spear damage, but only deals 0.3 when exhausted.
-=Movement=-
The Gourmand has really powerful slides and rolls.
Sliding: pressing jump and down when either going left or right causes any slugcat to
slide. For Gourmand, this can go really far, deal damage, stun the creature, and knock
them back.
Rolling: Pressing down and either left or right when fall from a height greater than
your jump, any slugcat can roll. For Gourmand, his goes really far, deals damage, and
stuns creatures.
-=Tips to Gourmand
* Swimming becomes near useless when exhausted, so take caution to avoid drowning in
deeper areas.
* Throwing a Spear deals 3x the normal damage, which can kill creatures such as Lizards
and Monster Kelp in a single hit. However, this immediately exhausts Gourmand, so it
is safest to attack single targets or at a distance.
* Sliding, rolling and slamming into enemies are very effective combat tools, stunning
most creatures for a considerable amount of time.
* Throw-boosting with Spears is considerably stronger as Gourmand.
