Ultimate Guide to New Game +0:
------------------------------
Written by Darkness

Finished the game and want to replay the whole campaign, but keeping your
character and everything it has? It's currently possible with a local
co-op trick!

Trick to Start New Game +0 (with Keep the Character)

-=Requirements=-
Two controllers plugged

Since the "trick" requires you to use local co-op, you'll currently need
two controllers plugged to trigger it.

-=Step 1: Creating a new profile=-
* Go to "Singleplayer" -> "New Game" and create a new profile on an empty slot.
* Skip the intro video, go to the Creator tab and just confirm it.
* You won't be playing this character anyway.
* Quit to main menu as soon as the game starts.

-=Step 2: Hosting a local co-op game=-
* Make sure your newly created profile is selected
* Using your "first controller"
* select "Couch Co-op" -> "Hosted Saved Game" on the main menu.
* Press A on the second controller to join, and select your "main character"
  save profile on the list.
* Use the first controller to "Resume" and start the couch co-op session.
* Quit to main menu using the first controller as soon as the game starts.

-=Step 3: Job's Done=
Basically, you just "erased" the world of your main character: when you join
a local co-op game as player 2/3/4, the game will override the world of your
characters with the player 1 character, meaning it'll respawn pickups, chests,
and reset the flags of the whole world state: unlocked areas, main and
sidequests as well.

You'll keep everything that matters: skills, armor, weapons, level, XP, and so
on. It also seems that vendors will still keep selling late-game gear to you
for some reason.

-=Advanced Usage=-
If you want to keep a save profile to "save" your current main character's world
state (main quests, side quests, and so on), you can host a local co-op session
with it and join with a newly created profile, before "reseting" it.

This way you'll be able to "load" its state later if you wish, without having to
redo everything. It also allows you to have multiple save slots reserved for a
certain main quest for example to redo it and farm XP.

-=Why +0?=-
Doing this will just reset the world to a "clean state": it won't make enemies
tougher or anything, meaning you'll probably have a much easier time redoing
the game with everything kept.

It also allows you to easily upgrade your Cyberdeck (as the world pickups
respawn), as well as score extra skill points due to the same reason.

Leveling gets really slow near level 30 and beyond, due to required XP per level.

How to Remove Film Grain, DOF, Chromatic Aberration:
----------------------------------------------------
Written by Waffle Washer

Do the following to remove settings desired.

From Windows search, search for:

%localappdata%

Navigate to:

C:\Users\*****\AppData\Local\TheAscent\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor

Open "Engine.ini" in notepad.

Paste:

[SystemSettings]
r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0 ;Remove Depth of Field
r.MotionblurQuality=0 ;Remove Motion Blur
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0 ;Remove Chromatic Aberration
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0 ;Remove Film Grain (Possibly redundant, but doesn't hurt)
r.Tonemapper.Quality=0 ;Remove Film Grain (devs recommend setting to 3 to remove grain effect, but keep other color benefits)
r.DefaultFeature.AntiAliasing=2 ;forces a specific AA-type: 0=none, 1=FXAA(untested), 2=TemporalAA(default)
r.PostProcessAAQuality=6 ;forces max quality AntiAliasing
r.ScreenPercentage=100 ; internal rendering resolution. Increase up to 200
r.LensFlareQuality=0 ;Removes lensflares

Use all, or just copy whichever line respective to your tastes.

Remote Play Together Guide (Shared Screen Co-op):
-------------------------------------------------
Written by By Ceptor and Maxim

Short(-ish) summary of the things that you need to have and steps that
you need to perform in order for the Shared Screen Coop to work for the
Steam version of The Ascent

-=Intro=-
Despite the unintuitive UI, The Ascent still can be enjoyed in Couch Coop
via Steam, and even in Remote Play Together, which allows you to buy 1 copy
of the game and play with up to 3 friends.

It took some time to investigate how this features work exactly, but here
some tips for you so you won’t have to waste any more time and play the game:

-=Shared Screen Co-op on the same PC=-
You can play in Shared Screen coop on the same PC, but only if you have
2 joysticks. Setup with 1 keyboard/mouse and 1 joystick unfortunately isn’t
working, because game treats both this inputs as one.

-=Thinks that you need=-
* 1 Beefy PC to run the Ascent
* 1 The Ascent game in your Steam Library
* 2 Joysticks (for 2 players coop)

-=Steps=-
1.Connect Joysticks to your PC. It can be even different joysticks. I’ve
  tested with on DualSense and one XBOX 360, with both of them being
  connected wirelessly.

2.Launch the Game.

3.Select Local Coop mode (Couch Coop) from the Main Menu Screen.

4.Load existing save/character or start new, this one is up to you.

5.As first player, navigate the screen with your joystick, so that Press "A"
  to join button is highlighted

6.As second player, press ‘A’ (XBOX) or ‘X’ (PS) on your joystick. After that the
  character selection screen is opened. You can select any existing save data, or
  create new (in this case your character will copy its look from the host’s character)

7. As first player, Start the game session.

-=Remote Play Together=-
Remote Play Together feature allows you to buy the game and then share it with up
to 3 friends at the same time.

-=The two downsides for this feature are=-
* Players who joining you (guests), can only play with Joysticks
* You, as a host, should also have your joystick connected.

If not, the second player won’t be able to open Character Selection screen, because,
as you remember, the game treats friend’s joustick and your keyboard/mouse as one
input. That’s why each player need their own joystick.

-=Things that you need=-
* 1 Beefy PC to run the Ascent and good internet connection
* 1 The Ascent game in your Steam Library
* 1 Joystick for each player in the session (min – 2, max – 4)
* 1 Steam account for each player in the session (Accounts should be friends with Host)
* Good internet connection for each party member

-=Steps=-
* Each player should connect their joysticks to their PC, including Host

* As Host, launch the Game.

* As Host, select Local Coop mode (Couch Coop) from the Main Menu Screen.

* As Host, load existing save/character or start new, this one is up to you.

* As Host, open Steam Overlay and invite the friend via Remote Play Together.

* As Host, close Steam Overlay. Whenever Steam Overlay is opened for the Host, guests
  can not access the game stream. Also, only the game is visible to the guests, so Host
  should not worry regarding any other data from other apps.

* As Guest, accept invite.

* As Host, navigate the screen with your joystick, so that Press ‘A’ to join button
  is highlighted

* As Guest, press ‘A’ (XBOX) or ‘X’ (PS) on your joystick. After that the character
  selection screen is opened. You can select any existing save data, or create new
  (in this case your character will copy its look from the host’s character)

* As Host, Start the game session.

How to Fix Stutter:
-------------------
Written by POOCH

The developers have heard the communities complaints regarding micro stutters whenever
there is a new explosion or model on screen that you have not seen before. This is due
to the game caching the shaders. The developers have said a fix will be coming soon,
but below is a guide on how you may be able to fix this for yourself in the meantime.

1.Switch from DX12 to DX11 for the time being.
2.Enable VSYNC.
3.Disable Control Flow Guard for the game. (Steps for this are below)

How to Disable Control Flow Guard for The Ascent

1.Click on the Windows Start Menu and search for Exploit Protection
2.Click on the Program Settings tab
3.Click + Add Program to Customize
3.Select Exact File Path
4.Navigate to \steamapps\common\The Ascent\TheAscent\Binaries\Win64\
  and select TheAscent-Win64-Shipping.exe
5.In the window that appears scroll down to Control Flow Guard
6.Check in Override System Settings, turn the setting off, then click Apply.

These are the settings that worked for me! I hope you can find that it helps you
too and can start to enjoy this amazing game without the stutter!

How to Get Bitsplit Shotgun:
----------------------------
This guide explains how you can get bitsplit shotgun even if you don’t have DLC.

-=How-To=-
It was supposed to be a bonus weapon for pre-orders only.

Technically you can still get it by starting a co-op game with someone who has it,
and when you finish the first mission, the bitsplit will get sent to both inventories
even if host doesn’t have the DLC.

-=Important note=-
I wouldn’t go through the trouble if I were you though, personally, there’s other
options for killing robots.
