1.	Introduction
==============================================

Ultimate Civil War Battles: Robert E. Lee vs. Ulysses S. Grant
is an awful, glitchy game that shouldn't be played. I made
this guide so if you do get it, you can beat it. This guide
covers the basics of the game. Also included is how to beat
each of the battles (On both the Union and Confederate sides).

==============================================
2.	Updates
==============================================

Final Version- Made a few minor changes, but I feel there is
nothing left to add.

Version 1.1- Updated various sections of the FAQ

Version 1- FAQ Completed

==============================================
3.	Controls
==============================================

Here are the controls for the game, basically. (Please note
the 2D/3D button on the top of the screen doesn't do anything)

Press F1 to view the help screen. Click on a troop to control
them. Right click on terrain to move them (You cannot move
soldiers manning the cannons). Right click on an opposing brigade
to attack (your brigade must be in range of another brigade to
start attacking them). If your brigade is close to an opposing
brigade, they will automatically fight. You can move the camera's
position with the mouse and move it's angle by using the scroll
button or holding Alt and moving the mouse. Press F5 to
temporarily save the game, and F6 to load it. You can adjust the
game speed with buttons at the top of the screen (1x, 2x, 4x,
8x).

==============================================
4.	Basics
==============================================

The basic elements of the game.

///////////////
Ambush Strategy
///////////////

The Ambush Strategy is a way to lure enemy brigades to their doom.
Without using it, you will find that many battles in the game are
nearly impossible to beat. Without further delay: here is the
Ambush Strategy:

1. Select a brigade and move them to a safe location near a
brigade you want to defeat.

2. Save with F5 and set the game speed to 8x.

3. Lead your brigade near the enemy's brigade(s) and get their
attention (so they follow your brigade).

4. Lead your brigade into an area with other brigades of your own,
preferably ones with cannons to defeat them.

5. If this works, use the F5 + F6 glitch to heal your troops after
you wipe out the victim brigade.

6. If this fails, load with F6 and try again.

///////////////
End Ambush Strategy
///////////////

You start off by selecting a side to play as, either Union or
Confederate. Note that the developers somehow managed to mix
up the colors of the uniforms, so the Union wears grey and the
Confederacy wears blue. They also made the mistake of making the
battlefield look like the Swiss Alps. You then select one of four
battles to play in, listed later.

On the battlefield, there are three types of soldiers.

Soldiers- The most common, most numerous (in men), and the
weakest. Soldiers are easy to take down and also easy to use.
They do well against other soldiers, and sometimes the other
two classes as well.

Horseback Riders- Usually the rarest type of soldier. They are
slightly more powerful than normal soldiers, but generally can't
take many hits. Can move faster than normal soldiers.

Soldiers Manning Cannons- Insanely powerful. Even going near one
causes you to lose men. The are stationary and can't move. They
can usually take lots of damage. You should try to lure your
enemies near them.

All brigades have health bars above them. Instead of using HP,
the bars decrease based on how many people are alive in each
brigade.

Each Type of Soldier has a different moving speed. Here is a
chart from best (top) to worst (bottom).

		 Horseback Riders
			^
		     Soldiers
			^
	 Soldiers Manning Cannons (immobile)

The speed of a soldier determines how fast they run. Soldiers
will, annoyingly, keep going back to fight other soldiers while
attempting to run away from them (Do NOT continuously tell
them to move to solve this. This may cause the game to crash).
The same goes for Horseback Riders fighting other Horseback
Riders. But Horseback Riders might outrun normal soldiers. You
can avoid the going back to fight problem by switching to 8x
speed.

Brigades are scattered throughout the map. You can view the map on
the lower-right corner of the screen. Click anywhere on the map to
be transported there.

==============================================
5.	Glitches
==============================================

Here I will list all the glitches I have found, and whether the
are good (+), bad(-), don't effect you (*), or a mixture of good
and bad (+-).

Saving and loading (The F5 + F6 Glitch) resets all statistics of
the current match and restores all health of all surviving
brigades (including enemy ones). (+-)

Telling any brigade to move too much (by quickly right clicking
many times after selecting a brigade to control) crashes the
game. (-)

All brigades (Including enemy ones) can walk through water,
buildings, other brigades, and objects. (+-)

The game crashes randomly, especially during the Battle of
Gettysburg. (-)

If you quit a match early, the side with more surviving soldiers
wins. (+-)

Sometimes when fighting other brigades, your brigade won't lose
soldiers, making your brigade invincible. (+)

Brigades can walk off the map slightly. (*)

Enemy brigades won't attack or move until one of your brigades
gets close to them. (+)

The 2D/3D Button does nothing (Not sure if it just wasn't
programmed in). (*)

Minimizing the game crashes it. (-)

You cannot complete the Battle of Gettysburg because a few
soldiers that are supposed to be in the battle are either
underground or just not programmed in, making them unreachable.
The battle is for that reason unbeatable. (-)

6.	Walkthrough
==============================================

Here is how to beat all of the battles in the game. I have
listed strategies for the Union and Confederate sides. I also
made a list of all of the brigades you control in each battles
and rated each battle (from 1-10) based on difficulty. The final
thing I have included is whether to use the Union or Confederacy
in each battle.

Difficulty as Union: 5
Difficulty as Confederacy: 5
Amount of brigades controlled as Union: 10
Amount of brigades controlled as Confederacy: 18

Brigade 21 has 277 soldiers
All other brigades have 100 soldiers

Strategies

Union
*****

The only thing you have on your side here are massive numbers.
The only hard part is the fact the Confederates have cannons. Try
to use Brigades 2 or 9 to defeat normal and horse-riding soldiers,
using the Save and Load glitch to heal their health afterwards. The
cannons are much more difficult to defeat, and unfortunately there
are a total of 3 cannons. There is a lone cannon, so go after that
one first (after drawing the nearby soldiers away and defeating
them). The way to go after cannons is by having any brigade battle
them until your brigade loses around half of it's men, than having
your brigade retreat and repeating the process with other brigades
until the cannon you're attacking is defeated. The other two cannons
are close together, so you will should wait until your brigade loses
around 1/4 of it's men before retreating and repeating the process.
If you follow this strategy, you should win this battle with few
problems.

*************
Confederation
*************

The Confederation has many less soldiers at it's disposal, but
also has cannons. The best way to win this battle is through
ambushes. See the Basics section for how to use the Ambush Strategy.
Keep ambushing and the battle will be over in no time at all. Just
keep in mind that if you lose your cannons, the battle is as good
as over unless the enemy has nearly no brigades left.

----------------------------------------------
6.2	Battle of Chancellorsville
----------------------------------------------

NOTE: There are two different battles here, depending on which
side you choose to play as. The Union walkthrough will be
listed first. The Confederation walkthrough will be listed
second.

Strategy

Pretty much the same as playing on the Union Side, but you are
massively outnumbered. Just another ambush battle. See the Basics
section of the guide to learn how to use the Ambush Strategy. This
is a somewhat easy battle, but due to your low numbers, it is nearly
impossible to beat this without ambushes.

----------------------------------------------
6.3	Battle of Gettysburg
----------------------------------------------

I will not be writing a Strategy for this battle. It is impossible
to beat this battle because there are a few brigades that can't be
found (On both the Union and Confederation sides). I don't know if
the soldiers are underground or just weren't programmed in, but
you can't use or fight them, making this battle unbeatable no matter
who you play as. If you know of a way to complete this battle, email
me at the address in the Contact section.

6.4	Battle of Chattanooga

--------
Strategy
--------

*****
Union
*****

Just about the instant you start, a huge battle will erupt between
Union and Confederate soldiers. You will lose many of your brigades
here, and there is just about nothing you can do about it. After the
battle is done, use the F5 + F6 glitch to heal your brigades.
Afterwards, use the Ambush Strategy in the Basics Section. The hard
part of this battle is facing the cannons with your low numbers. The
way to do this is to go after cannons is by having any brigade battle
them until your brigade loses around half of it's men, than having
your brigade retreat and repeating the process with other brigades
until the cannon you're attacking is defeated, and using the F5 + F6
glitch to heal afterwards. This is a very hard battle, possibly the
hardest.

*************
Confederation
*************

Unlike the Union battle, this battle is pitifully easy. Your brigades
should win the battle that starts after the stage starts up, with few
deaths. Regardless, heal them with the F5 + F6 glitch after the battle.
From there, just defeat whatever is left of the Union brigades. This
battle should be done in no time at all.
