Hints:

Germanium is absolutely crucial early on for building factories, so 
get an early jump on Germanium-rich planets. Ironium is important for
torpedo-based ships, whereas Boranium is used for beam weapons.

PBEM Stars!: How to crack:

* Use CheatEngine, search for 2 byte integers. 
* Load/unload colonists, minerals 
  (remember: close cargo window to fix changes!), and find address. 
* 4 addresses for every planet. 
* Write desired value, but no more 32000 (32767, because int is signed). 
* Do not excess maximum population 1,1-1,3 millions 
  (divide by 100 to get kT and value in memory). 
  Fix values and make turn, they must remain. 

If you manipulate colonists, it may cause loses or lags on pop.

Do not use cheats in multiplayer game! 
You need to be host, and usually move files are under password. 
It's not only difficult, but also not fun.
