Our History
Cheatbook began as a simple cheat code collection and grew over nearly three decades into one of the web's most comprehensive gaming resources. Here are some key milestones:
- 1996 Cheatbook is founded in Hamburg, Germany. The first cheat code collections were distributed via an AOL gaming community and through Hamburg's classic dial-up BBS scene — players connecting with their modems to download the latest codes.
- 1998 The monthly CheatBook Issue launches as a free downloadable digest of the newest cheat codes. The Cheatbook-DataBase annual compilation also debuts — a yearly all-in-one release collecting every cheat code published that year, available as a free download.
- 2000s Database grows rapidly. Console cheat codes are added. The annual Cheatbook-DataBase release becomes a popular yearly tradition with a loyal community of downloaders.
- 2010s Game trainers section expands to hundreds of titles. The blog launches at blog.cheatbook.de. Mobile-friendly design improvements begin.
- 2020s Major site modernization: new Factory template system, full SEO overhaul, Schema.org structured data, genre classification for 16,500+ games, and Core Web Vitals optimization.
- 2026 Over 28,500 games in the database. 210 monthly issues published. 1,440+ game trainers available. 28+ annual Cheatbook-DataBase editions released. Cheatbook remains free, independent, and actively maintained from Hamburg.
How We Work
Cheatbook is an independently operated website. Our cheat codes are sourced from community submissions, direct game research, and curated from trusted sources. Every entry is reviewed before publication.
Our editorial approach
We do not fabricate cheat codes. Entries that cannot be verified are either flagged or removed. The Cheatbook-DataBase annual release undergoes a full quality review before each edition. Game trainers are tested for compatibility before being listed.
Monthly updates since 1998
Every month without exception, a new CheatBook Issue is published with the latest cheat codes and trainer releases. This has happened continuously since January 1998 — over 210 issues to date. The database is also updated throughout the month as new games are released.
Community contributions
Players can submit their own cheat codes, hints, and tips via our submission page. Submitted content is reviewed by our team before going live. We credit the community for helping keep the database current across thousands of games.
Why is Cheatbook Free?
Cheatbook has always been free and will remain so. We believe cheat codes, hints, and gaming help should be accessible to every player regardless of budget. The site is supported by non-intrusive advertising, which allows us to keep all content completely free of charge.
There is no registration, no account required, and no premium tier. Every cheat code, trainer download, and walkthrough on Cheatbook.de is available to anyone, immediately.
Get in Touch
Have a cheat code to share, found an error, or want to get in touch with the Cheatbook team? We welcome community contributions and feedback.
