Unlocking the alternate version of a character normally involves beating 
six levels with them. However, you can speed up the process by activating 
the AI Partners in the EX Options menu. This allows you to have up to 3 
randomly selected CPU characters fight alongside you. While the game doesn't 
record your scores while this option is activated, it still registers 
that you're using the CPU characters. That means you can unlock multiple 
alternate versions at the same time without ever having to directly play 
as them.
