Tips to Be a Rocket Soldier Legend:
-----------------------------------
Written by LoganEX
* Play as Hunter and grab the rocket launcher from the crate
while using your secondary weapon.
* Grab it again using your primary weapon.
* You can now kill tigers and armored bugs easily. Use building
and height advantage to rain rocket down on bugs.
* You can kill a small crowd of bugs by yourself. Instead of
reloading your first rocket launcher, switch to your second
launcher for maximum rate of fire for short burst damage.
* During extraction, you can punch through any bug blockade by
yourself. During defence phase, you can plug any hole by yourself
and hope a team mate can repair the wall before you run out of
ammo.
* Just make sure you have portable ammo station or use your team
mate to kill single small to medium bugs. You will not last long
alone, but when you do have ammo you can be one man army.
* You would have to use knife on single small bug if there is no
team mate around, but it is not good idea to knife regular bugs
as you would be trading health away.
XP List with Tips:
------------------
Written by Monkey
Simple list of the types of experience gained throughout the game.
-=XP Amounts=-
The following amounts are the same regardless of the difficulty.
-=Combat (Kills)=-
* Drone: 1XP
* Warrior: 1XP
* Gunner: 5XP
* Tiger: 50XP
* Grenadier: 100XP
-=Support=-
* Paid Respects: 7XP (Interact with a fallen soldier)
* Rearmed Ally: 20XP (Someone refilling using your Ammo Fabricator)
* Revived Ally: 30XP
-=Mission=-
* Trooper Extracted: 25XP (per survivor)
* AAS Complete: 250XP
* ARC Slam Complete: 500XP
-=Side Objectives=-
Assuming the following events will have XP bonus in future updates:
* Retrieve Lost Resources
* High Priority Targets (Exterminate Bugs)
* Repair Generators
-=Things that don’t give XP=-
* Building / Repairing / Destroying base structures
* Carrying or depositing Gas Canisters back to base
-=Tips=-
Ammo Fabricators can be a great source of XP if placed strategically as
each time a team member uses it, you get 20XP which can quickly stack up:
* Place an Ammo Fabricator next to barricaded Bastions that are defending
a key location. You get XP whenever they refill ammo and they help protect
you and others in return.
* Placed near key locations in general such as Refineries making it easier
for defenders.
* Place Ammo Fabricators near bunkers to help out the occupants that are
defending the base. Also place where there is no Ammo in an area of defence.
* Using the Med Bot to revive multiple downed allies at once can give a nice
chunk of XP. Given the long cooldown it might be worth to hold using it
until someone is seconds away from dying, in the event others go down after
you’ve used it.
* Playing on a harder difficulty doesn’t change how much XP you get, only a
higher chance of spawning Tigers and Grenadiers. You can still get a nice
amount playing on Easy difficulty and Tigers and Grenadiers go down quick
so easy XP if you’re fast enough.
Tips to Level Up Fast:
----------------------
So, some things some of the veteran players probably know but maybe will
help players who have recently got into the game.
-=Fast Levelling Tips=-
I am going to go over the correct way to level quickly and perhaps a bit of
an exploit.
Let’s start with exp gain.
-=You get exp for the following=-
* 1 exp for killing a drone/warrior.
* 5 or 20 exp (can’t remember exactly) for killing a gunner.
* 50 exp for killing a tiger
* 100 exp for killing a grenadier.
Note: you don’t have to actually get the kill, but at least assist in the kill.
You’ll know because it will pop up with a kill marker.
* 20 exp for a teammate resupply off of your ammo station.
* 20 exp for a revive.
* 10 exp for a heal.
I’m sure i’m missing some, feel free to correct me on any numbers or any
additional exp income.
-=Best way to earn exp in game, the correct way=-
* Get kills on special bugs. each kill on a grenadier is equal to 100
kills on drones. No brainer.
* Lay out supports such as resupplies and heals.
* Spread your shots.
Note: this is to level up quicker. These tips are not always the way you
should play to have the best impact on the team. If everyone spreads their
shots on as many enemies and no one finishes the kills, you can see where
issues may arise. I’m telling you how to level, not win.).
Exp exploit: Useful for only support and hunter. Bastion must level the way
that it supposed to be done.
Exploit must be done with a friend, I think.
* Run the resupply utility.
* Find the first bunker that spawns the resupply ammo crate. You need to be
able to resupply your utility.
* Lay down you resupply drops, grab more, and lay em down again. rinse and
repeat.
* Your teammate shoots one shot, fill up on ammo using your resupply drop,
shoots another shot, and do it again. Rinse and repeat.
You get 20 exp for every time your teammate uses your resupply. So 80 exp
for each resupply you lay down that he uses completely. By shooting and
resupplying after each shot (not reload) you can go through a full resupply
every 4-5 seconds. That’s equal to 80 kills on drones every 4-5 seconds.
Do the math. Unlimited exp.
My friend gained 2 levels in one match, over 3500 exp.
Note: your teammates will hate you, because you are not helping the team
at all. You may be friendly fired…been there done that.
Note: In some ways, perhaps the exploit should be fixed, but I really like
the idea of being able to earn exp through support actions, rather than just
kills.
-=Last tips for noobs=-
* You can put the ore canister on your back if you’re an operator.
* Don’t stand under the red smoke, no matter what they tell you….been there
done that.
* Instead of grabbing the rocket without thought…pull out your pistol and
then pick up the rocket. It’ll replace the pistol instead of your main
gun (I went quite a while without knowing that.).
Guide to Better Base Building:
------------------------------
Real quick gents, FYI auto-turret shoot at everything, including low value
threats and they don’t shoot far away. Put up a twin MG to target priority
threats like grenadiers, gunners and tigers far away before they even get
to the base. Auto cannons are great if the wall isn’t constantly manned.
So try to place an auto cannnon and an MG in each area.
Don’t build inner walls. If you build good outer walls with overlapping fields
of fire you don’t need inner walls. Inner walls also confuse players when
retreating and blocks field of fire if bugs are inside of the base.
Keep the base as small as possible to concentrate player fire power and fields
of fire. Use the game’s natural buildings as defenses since the bugs can’t
destroy those. The longer the walls are the more stretch out the players are
and the more diluted the firepower is.
* Don’t use the large gates, they’re a waste of space.
* Try not to use bunkers, they cost a lot of resources that can be used
for turrets.
Position the watch towers 45 degrees from the center of a wall and put a
manned MG in the outer corner of the watch tower to watch the sides of the
walls. Kind of like this.
MG Field of Fire / MG \ MG Field of Fire
_____wall_____/ watch\______wall_______
\tower/////
\ /
Last thing but most important, build bases with overlapping fields of fire i
n mind, especially with auto cannons and manned MGs.
The Secret Behind Efficiency:
-----------------------------
Written by Katmorphous333
* When you are an operator at a refinery and an ore canister is ready to be
picked up, do not pick it up!
* We all know you want to put the canister in your backpack badly but try to
control yourself for a second.
* Instead of grabbing that canister right away, restart the refinery right away!
* Then once the refinery starts the process of making another canister for you
to carry, only then you should grab the ready canister to put in your backpack.
* Remember, restart refinery first then grab canister, easy as pie!
* Never waste everyones time by grabbing the ready canister first!
* Your tiny ore filled brain never thinks about what happens when you pick up
the canister first instead of restarting the refinery, so I will tell you.
* First you waste everyones time when they could get to other objectives faster.
* Second all that wasted time can accumulate to 5 to 10 seconds lost PER canister.
So if you multiply this by 4 since the refinery can only make 4 canisters before
entering cooldown, I know its hard but try to keep up, it means that in the long
run we lost 20 to 40 seconds minimum! Which can give enough time for the game
to spawn more bugs at your refinery team, which adds more chances of you failing
to bring back all canisters or even defending the refinery.
* Third it lets you bring the ore back to base faster, 20 to 40 seconds can make
all the difference in base building when the game decides to spawn a big ambush
at the base.
-=Extra Tips=-
* We know how much you love to put your grabby operator hands on those canisters
but naughty naughty, do not pick a second canister unless you are about to leave
the refinery with it. Otherwise you end up leaving it on the floor which leaves
it vulnerable to be destroyed by bugs.
* We all know how you love spamming your noobtube to kill bug packs surrounding
the refinery, BAD! bad operator!, canisters can explodes from your noobtube, all
it takes is one blowing up and they all blow up!
* The only times you should put your greasy paws on a second canister is when you
know that the bugs will destroy the refinery, so move them to a safe place on
the side, make use of that fast carrying speed efficiently for once!
* Do not drop your second canister just to kill drones and blow up your canister
in the process silly! You can 1hit them with melee.
* Always carry 2 canisters if you can, you are much faster than even a hunter
carrying these things, make yourself useful! and dont be selfish thinking only
about yourself carrying only 1 canister in your backpack for your own survival!
Tips to Manipulate and Use Canisters:
-------------------------------------
Written by Stardust
You need to hold down m1 until a charge icon appears. That will charge how hard you
throw the canister. And if I remember correctly… to switch the canister from your
pack to your hands is key (I dont remember correctly but its one of the number key).
This feature came out in 0.4.0 with Horde but most people missed it (or failed to
realize the potential). Proper use (time it with a jump/sprint so you can throw higher
& further) can enable a Hunter to bring ore to base quicker & safer than conventional
route. I’ve been doing this for a while and happy to see it’s catching up ^^ (like
the trick with TMG on top of watchtower).
-=Tips=-
* When a refinery is destroyed, any extracted canister will fall out and remain on the
ground so don’t shoot blindly into it if you can help it. This actually allows a
solo Hunter to safely extract all 4 canisters and stash them for later pick up –
just activate refinery and kill enough bugs for the extraction to complete, let bugs
destroy refinery & move on; jump down, pickup canister & stash it, build refinery and
repeat. (just be careful of 1-2 stray bugs sometimes come up from behind you when
you’re building the refinery)
* Bugs are attracted to dropped canister, however ONLY the Drones will nibble and
eventually destroy it, the Warrior just push it around and stare at it. Take your
time clear out the bugs around a canister, don’t be hasty and destroy it with stray
shots.
* If gas refinery is far away as a Hunter you can go solo and stash 4/8 canisters
ready for later pick-up, it saves a lot of time. Faraway ore refinery are less
tempting and people might just ignore it so don’t waste effort.
* A Bastion can juggle with more than 1 canister (2-3) to bring them back to base,
however it’s fairly risky so not recommended. It’s quite amusing to see when
somebody can pull it off though.
