Guide to Earning XP Awards in Battle:
-------------------------------------
Written by Son're
Just a few details about how XP is awarded/ shared in this game.
-=How to Earn XP Awards in Battle=-
* XP is not shared – only the Knight scoring the Killing Blow gets XP.
* Missions reward XP for each participant, but higher level knights get less.
* Kills with Exploding Barrels do not give XP.
* Throwing environmental objects does give XP.
* Kills form falling do give XP.
* Grenade kills give normal XP.
Summons and raise dead can give (a very small amount) XP, but I think I
have also gotten Zero XP other times, so maybe higher level knights no
longer get XP form very weak enemies? (unconfirmed).
You do not always need to kill every enemy, but if you can delay the mission
ending safely you can farm more kills for XP.
Tips to Survive in Early Game:
------------------------------
I saw a lot of posts answered with git gud, but it might not be very useful.
So after surviving 50 days with the DLC in Legendary grandmaster, here is what
worked for me.
* Don’t accept no WP mission without a squad tailored to it
(grenade specialists + specced Techmarine + servoskull apoth).
* Same for other risky assignments(3 marines, even no mastercrafter weapon can
be a pain). It’s better to be safe than sorry.
* Only take the very best T1 items. Don’t waste Reqs on mediocre ones, and
try to get melee + armor Req levels up ASAP.
* Examples are: AoE melee weapons, + Mv armor, + Will armor.
I also took the +50% XP blade.
-=My Squad composition is=-
* Justicar*2 with honor the chapter.
* 1 purgator with psilencer.
* 1 Interceptor.
The Interceptor is not very impressive early, but has great potential.
The purgator psilencer can OS a lot of cultists at once, but he will usually
required all his 3 actions to get into position, so honor the chapter will be
critical.
Grenades are great to push people in the “void”. Abuse them this way. They
also help getting some WP back for your justicars. Using Honor the chapter on
each other also helps them replenish WP.
You don’t have to engage every group on the map to win, but make sure you pull
opponents away from reinforcements when you are engaged against a group with
another nearby.
Ignore storyline research requests, and get Quicksilver and Gates of Infinity
ASAP (the first strategems, on the left).
Focus on getting warp drive early on (servitors -> warp drive -> reactor
-> warp drive -> servitors -> whatever you want).
How to Beat Morbus Missions:
----------------------------
Vakir can one shot most demon type foes with her banish ability, including
those stationary flowers and trees (they’re daemonic). Do remember she has
to be in melee range though.
-=With that said I can suggest the following=-
* Bring a lot of firepower; you wanna make sure you get rid of each wave of
enemies as fast as possible.
* Spread out your knights, enough to always send at least one knight to each
rift as they pop, but close enough so that you’ll be able to reinforce.
* Executions are VERY helpful.
* If possible, prevent Kartha from taking any damage.
* You can, sometimes, prevent enemies from coming through a rift, if you place
a knight in the exact tile where the rift is (won’t work if whatever is coming
is a big enemy).
* The Morbus gate will always be guarded; don’t rush in if you don’t have enough
firepower to wipe most or all of them in a single turn.
* Sometimes enemies become considerably less threatening if you take away their
mutations; don’t forget to bring something you can purge with (preferably
something with 100% chance to purge).
* Don’t send Kartha first, unless you can follow up with enough to clean up the
rest (or minimize damage).
Build Tips for Techmarine:
--------------------------
I went with the top / right sections (awakening bonus, aegis bonus and the extra
servitor). I try to take these servitors: (in priority order) melta, bolter and
hydraulic.
I treat the tech marine as fire support to augment other knights.
I find the plasma servitor is situational and best used to push enemies into
position / off ledges, but becomes less useful later in the game.
Tips for Overwatch:
-------------------
* When facing a distant group of all melee enemies.
* When facing enemies who are warping in.
* When defending a choke point (doorway) where enemies must pass to attack you.
* When you’re not in combat and can see a pod is moving into close range with
your squad on a predictable way.
* OW-specific bolters that do more damage this way.
The major difference from XCOM is snipers. OW isn’t great for assaults or heavies
in XCOM–only for snipers. But the super long range gear in chaos gate doesn’t even
do overwatch.
This all said, XCOM late game you’re not using OW much. One way to think about
the game is the grey knights are starting at a much higher level–they kill
starting enemies with 1-2 melee attacks-so they’ll play more like endgame assaults
than early game snipers.
